Project Overview
This project involved a complete mechanical, electrical, and HVAC retrofit of the Stewart River Lift Station for the Government of Yukon in Mayo. Temporary bypass pumping was installed to divert sanitary flow while replacing submersible pumps, piping, valving, appurtenances, and remediating the wet well. NIC self‐performed the mechanical and electrical scope of work on this project including bypass pumping, wet well anode replacement, fire protection system, furnace / HVAC system and all electrical distribution, instrumentation, SCADA components.

Nahanni Butte Design-Build Water Treatment Plant

Nahanni Butte, NT

Project Overview
This design-build water treatment plant was constructed in 2019-2020 for the residents of Nahanni Butte, NT. Northern Industrial Construction was contracted to design and retrofit the existing water treatment plant which had extensive damage to the existing piping, pumps and equipment. The scope of work involved upgrades and redesign of the main process systems including raw water, pre-oxidation, pressure filtration, softeners, chemical dosing, treated water storage and truck fill. The water treatment plant control system was redesigned and updated to optimize plant operation. Upon construction completion, start up activities were completed such that NIC provided the client with a “turn-key” facility.
Challenges
  • Developing a treatment process to resolve a long standing issue with manganese in the treated water.
  • Site access via winter road and barge only.
  • Maintaining a reliable water supply to residents during construction using pre-planned construction staging.
  • Disinfection and chemical dosing calibration processes to test plant output prior to connecting treated water to distribution.

Range Road Lift Station

Whitehorse, YT

Project Overview
The scope of this project consisted of the supply and installation of a pre-packaged lift station and an emergency standby generator. This contract also included the construction of an operations building to house the generator and facility process controls. Civil work included 200 meters of 6” sanitary main, 30 meters of 4” force main and 50 meters of service water. Yard piping work included tie-ins to the existing infrastructure.
This new lift station replaced the existing station, which has reached the end of its service life.

Salt River First Nation FRP Lift Station

The scope of this project included the supply and installation of a 12 meter deep pre-packaged FRP lift station and an emergency standby generator. This lift station will serve a new subdivision in Fort Smith for the Salt River First Nation.
